To My Husband That is Now a Father, Thank You

Throughout this month of June, I've spent a lot of time thinking of how I could best honor my husband on his first Father's Day. While looking for gifts was fun, taking the time to say thank you just felt so much more important.

Being a parent is tough. And gross. And exhausting. But there is absolutely no one else in the world I'd rather be raising a family with than the man I so proudly call my husband. Becoming a family of 3 has been a big transition for us, as I'm sure it is for all new parents. So much about our relationship has changed. I've been told a lot that being young parents would mean less of life, and less of a relationship. That we would have less travel, less money, less energy, and less time for each other. But I truly feel that becoming parents has brought more to our relationship. More compassion. More teamwork. More reliance. More refinement. More perspective. And while there's definitely more fatigue, there is so much more joy.

So to my husband that is now a father, thank you.

Thank you for always finding the time to make me feel loved and reassured. For telling me I'm a good mom even on the days the house is a mess and I've got tears in my eyes from being so worn down. Thank you for always supporting my dreams and goals without a second thought, and pushing me to be a better version of myself each day.

Thank you for rising above the stereotypes our culture too often gives fathers. For changing just as many diapers as I do, for helping me through the midnight feedings. For doing laundry and cooking dinner - and never once complaining about it. For singing our baby to sleep and comforting him when he's sad. Thank you for being present with our son and giving him all the love and attention in the world.

You live and breathe this little family of ours. You go to work each day to provide for us, and I can't thank you enough for all of your hard work that allows me to stay home with our son. Thank you for being joyful even after a long day of work. I LOVE the joy you have for life.

Watching our baby's face light up the moment you walk into a room and seeing him speed crawl his way over to you is something I cherish beyond belief. Our son absolutely adores you. You put our family first, always. I will thank you for that for as long as I can utter the words. For honoring me as a wife, and eagerly stepping up to the sacred role of fatherhood, thank you.

To my husband that's now a father, thank you. I hope you know how incredibly loved and appreciated you are, especially on your first Father's Day.
